Today I was blessed to see a story about a woman who has held her dream in her heart from the time she was twelve. She is now 47. She gave a promise to her dying mother that she would sing. Fulfilling her promise, and in honor of her mother, Susan Boyle, from a small village in Blackburn, Scotland, has captivated the world with her beautiful voice. Her story goes to show that no matter what odds we may face in life, or how old we become, we can still live out our dreams, sometimes in most unexpected ways.
Click to View YouTube Video. I've just watched her video again with Big Z, and I'm so glad the Internet has brought her story to our home. I am just as touched and captivated as the world.
DAY 2 Efforts and Results
My four contacts today were follow-ups with folks I've spoken to in my community regarding Big Z's businesses since the start of Boot Camp.
1 is a friend
2 are friends and parents of children at Z's school
1 is our neighbor
I will follow-up with them tomorrow to set a time with the 2 from school to learn more as one has slow Internet connection, and the other needs support with getting to the mall. Since we're in the same community, a personal meeting is in order.
My neighbor, originally from El Salvador, may still feel the language barrier is an issue for them. Since we last spoke about Big Z's business, they have been approached by Spanish speaking friends from their church regarding another home business endorsed by a major businessman. I believe they would've gotten started, if it weren't for the fee involved. The Dad has been laid off from work for a few months now, and it's only this week that he's gotten to go back for "temporary" time. Mom is still cleaning houses and the church. Even though it is unlikely they will pursue this business, I'm content to keep talking with them about it, because, one never knows when the tide shifts in a person's life and they can "see and hear" differently, trusting that they are just like anyone else and can do this business, too. Language does not have to be a barrier.
F/U with email to head of Big Z's school, a private NPO. Gave the link to the online NPO presentation, the link to the T-Day site, since we spoke about this in our conversation, and the link to the SIFA Choir song. I also let her know that if she finds value, and if a meeting is in order with the board, that they also look at this information before a meeting, so that everyone is on the same page. I let her know I'm open for questions, and if I can't answer them, I will find someone who can. I added that I've spoken with other parents about Big Z's Biz and that there is a support net already being built for a f'ree fund raising method, and that there is a strategy we'd use to support the school with their help.
In support of our health, we've unearthed our juicer and gotten our first bit of juice in us after Big Z came home from school: carrot, parsley, cucumber, and spinach. It was sweet, creamy and a good boost for our late afternoon before dinner ;-).
I was up in the night again, unfortunately. However, I didn't hang out in bed trying to get back to sleep. Instead, I got up and read emails, blogs, and caught up on our Someone Believes In You subscription ;-).
That did, however, give me a bit of fatigue throughout the day, but that was okay. Why? Because today was my lighter of my scheduled time for working MPM. I was "scheduled" to give a 2 1/2 hour chunk of time towards MPM on my calendar. In the end, I've given small snippets throughout the day talking with folks in my community, and gave a chunk of time this evening to the rest --- about 2.5 hours.
A big part of me feels that I didn't make my contacts . . . or move my beans (we are using small polished stones) today. I count the people I've spoken with as "new" this go 'round since follow-up with all of them hasn't happened since Christmas. However, knowing that I'll be working with leads causes me to say, "Hey! You didn't call anyone today!" So, I'll be listening to my inner voice and quieting it when it acts up; and I'll listen harder when it's telling me something really important, like, "You'd better move those stones, Girl, or Jacki gonna be on your doorstep in a heartbeat. It don't matter she lives 3000 miles away!"
Updated Big Z tonight on who I've spoken with and the progress made. I've asked for his input about supporting his school through the NPO World Changer Mall and he's a YES! Also, I read to him my thank you written in the blog since he was with his Dad when I wrote it. When I finished, he said, "Thank you." I added, "Thank you, Big Z! I'm so glad to be your Mom; and it's kind of fun having you as my business partner, too."
Feeling good and optimistic. Now, for a good and fitful night's rest . . . This is the order of our late evening.
